About us
NEUSTART gemeinnützige GmbH was founded in 2004 and is located in Stuttgart. It is a branch of the Austrian non-profit organisation NEUSTART which has been active in judicial social work since 1957.
As of 1st January 2007, the federal state of Baden-Württemberg entrusted NEUSTART gemeinnützige GmbH with the provision of all tasks, measures and services which are necessary in connection with probation service and court assistance.
The mission statement of NEUSTART is based on the mission statement von NEUSTART a human, tolerant, democratic and solidary society “which respects cultural differences (…), actively supports socially weak members of the society and saves them from social exclusion”. The NEUSTART concept of “constructive conflict resolution”, which comes along with this mission statement, is based on the commitment to social justice and equal opportunities.
This action principle is also reflected by the strong commitment of our full-time and our volunteer staff whose work aims at strenuously counteracting the automatically increasing alienation of offenders from the civil society by which they are surrounded.
Irrespective of their previous life and personal fault, all individuals desire the chance to change their life positively. This is the only way in which social (re)integration and social participation is also possible for those whose life would otherwise hardly offer any positive prospects.
The primary aim and intention of our work is the targeted rehabilitation and integration of offenders many of whom are living in isolation on the fringes of our society.
Our motto, our action and our approaches absolutely protest against any kind of stigmatisation and social isolation of minorities since we believe that repression and deliberate dissociation are no adequate approach when it comes to supporting individuals in their endeavour to integrate. On the contrary, we are convinced that only the development and the strengthening of their social competence and their sensitivity to their own problematic situation – its implications and consequences – can release and promote learning processes in offenders which are relevant for the concerned persons themselves as well as for their environment.
Social work with offenders considerably contributes to minimising – and in the ideal case to completely avoiding – the rate of (habitual) crimes, it sustainably contributes to public safety.
