NEUSTART gGmbH

As of 1st January 2007, the federal state of Baden-Württemberg commissionedNEUSTART gemeinnützige GmbH with the performance of all tasks, measuresand services which are relevant with regard to probation support and courtassistance.

NEUSTART gemeinnützige GmbH is a non-profit organisation and was foundedin 2004. NEUSTART is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Austrian association NEUSTART, which has been active in judiciary social work for more than 50 years.

The state’s final decision in favour of NEUSTART was preceded by a two-yearregional pilot project in Stuttgart and Tübingen (01.01.2005 – 31.12.2006), whichwas the result of a call for tenders by means of which the suitable contractpartner was determined within the scope of a multi-level, Europe-wide selectionprocedure. The assignment of the tasks to NEUSTART with regard to the wholefederal state, too, was the result of a call for tenders.

NEUSTART has based its work on three central principles: digesting the past –coping with the present – securing the future. These principles determine the selfimageand the work of the currently approx. 470 full-time and more than 650 voluntary NEUSTART employees in Baden-Württemberg, who provideassistance and support for approximately 20,000 clients who are on probation, who carry out 3,800 surveys in the context of court assistance and who intervenein 1,800 cases of victim-offender mediation every year. With their work, theymake a decisive contribution to ensuring protection against crime as well asagainst the social consequences and interactions of crime: NEUSTART workswith constructive conflict management and assists its clients according to theirneeds.

Uniform quality standards applying to all services of probation support and courtassistance as well as of the victim-offender mediation, and the active involvementof voluntary work as central factor of probation support are considered by NEUSTART as the guarantors of the successful rehabilitation of individuals in avery volatile life situation.

Across the state, there are nine subsidiaries (in the cities of Freiburg, Heilbronn,Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Ravensburg, Reutlingen, Rottweil, Stuttgart, Ulm) whoseorganisational concept also takes the specific regional particularities of theirclients into account.

The head office itself is located in Stuttgart. The management consists of Dipl.-Ök. Volkmar Körner (economic affairs) and Dipl. Soz. Arb. (FH) Christian Ricken (social work and organisation of the institutions).
